Time Marches On

My wife's mom passed away July 21, 2009 at age 101 and I considered all that she had seen in her life since 1908. That was the first year of the Model-T Ford and the yanks lost over 100 games that year and it was also the first year that a Gideon Bible was placed in a hotel room. She was born on Feb. 3rd the same as my mom was 9 years later in 1917. We would, as a tradition, take the both of them out to eat to celebrate and that was a treat. I often think that once I am gone what will be my legacy and who else shares my interest in keeping the Harris family history alive. The last I visited Oak Grove cemetery I was saddened to see that they have removed the yews that stood on each side of the stone but then thought "who else will visit here?" We are biblically admonished to "forget what lies behind and reach forward to what lies ahead."Phil. 3:12-14. That seems to be more in line with not letting the bad that happened in your past drag you down in the days ahead as opposed to honoring those in our lives that have had a positive impact. I have been remiss of late in devoting time to keep the memory of Ma and Pa alive and hope to rededicate myself to that goal while also being attentive to being there for those that need me in the here and now.
